But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Ephesians 2:4-5 NIV

I was dead in my sin. I had no inclination toward God or spiritual things. Even though I was brought up in the church and was familiar with the Bible, I was a lost sinner, looking to get away from home and be out on my own. The life I had planned for myself did not include God.

But because of his great love for me, God made himself known to me, calling me from my life of sin and into a life with Christ. Nothing I had done or was even capable of doing, caused God to demonstrate his grace to me. In his mercy, he offered it to me freely.

A New Life

It was the summer of my 18th year when God graciously reached out to me in love. Throughout a several-week period, he worked in my heart and mind, preparing them for his invitation. I found myself immersed in a group of people unlike any I had ever experienced before. And my heart began to yearn for God and the relationship they had. And finally, one night, I surrendered to his invitation to a new life.

I am eternally grateful for what he did for me, bringing me from death to life. Because of his great love for me, his rich mercy, and his grace. He has made me alive with Christ. Praise God for his indescribable grace.
