Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
Psalm 95:1-7a NIV
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
This psalm is a call to worship. To come before God with thanksgiving and song. Remembering who he is and what he has done. He is the creator of this whole universe, making it out of nothing. And he has called us to be his chosen people. A chosen flock under his care.
I find it so easy to lose sight of God’s provision in my life. Yet, I owe him everything. My very existence is due to him. All that I am and all that I have are from him. And yet so often, my eyes turn from God to the world around me. Whether it be major events like a global pandemic or economic collapse. Or the minor business of life. I am so easily distracted.
A Call to Worship
And that’s what I love about this psalm. It refocuses me on what is truly important. When I kneel before my creator in worship, the distractions of this world fade away. And I can come away renewed and better able to handle the stresses and distractions of life.
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord.
Come, let us bow down in worship.
