Faith Is Confidence and Assurance

Hebrews 11:6

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. . . . And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Hebrews 11:1, 6 NIV

The first verse of this chapter defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Then the sixth verse applies faith specifically to belief in God. We must believe that God exists (assurance in the unseen), and we must believe that he rewards those who seek him (confident hope). It is not enough to believe that God exists; after all, even Satan believes God exists (James 2:19). We must also earnestly seek him with the confidence that our seeking will be rewarded. Faith is a life commitment.

It would be so much easier if God would just reveal himself visibly to all, removing any doubts as to his existence and his intent for humanity. But then there would be no place for faith, and without faith, it is impossible to please God. He wants those who will believe in the unseen God and who will commit their lives to seek him. So, then, is God pleased with you?
