And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deedsHebrews 10:24 NIV
I love the picture painted here. You know the big sharp spurs you sometimes see movie cowboys wearing, that jangle as they walk. Spurs are used to assist in directing a horse to move in the desired direction; giving them a little extra encouragement. The word ‘spur’ in this verse could easily be replaced with ‘encourage’. We should be in the habit of encouraging each other. And not just in the sense of cheering up the discouraged. But also encouraging each other to be moving in the right direction.
Think about (consider) how to be an encourager today for other believers you come into contact with. Think about ways that you can encourage other believers to be growing in Christ. To have love for other people, both within the body and outside. And to be engaged in good deeds, doing things that are helpful to other people. If you struggle with how to do that, start by growing in love and good deeds yourself, and then encourage others to join you.
