“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Luke 15:8-10 NIV
The fifteenth chapter of Luke contains three very similar parables; the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. In all three, something is lost, is then found, and the result is rejoicing. What is it that was lost? I was! But I have been found. And there is rejoicing in heaven. And not just that I have been found. Heaven rejoices in all those who come to the Father above.
The Spirit Draws the Prodigal Home
All of humanity is like the lost, or prodigal, son. Lost in our sinfulness and separated from the love of the Father. But God’s Spirit works in each of our hearts, seeking the lost, and drawing us to him. And all those who respond to his call, and turn to the Father, are found, coming from darkness into the light. And there is rejoicing in heaven over each sinner who repents and comes to God in faith.
Praise God who rescues us from death and grants us his indescribable gift of eternal life!
The title “a clay jar” in itself says alot to me. For we are but created of dust of the earth. This tells me that everything is possible with our Father. Our Father loves us”so” much that He gave His only Son that we should have everlasting life….
Amen! For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
