You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the LORD forever,
for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.

Isaiah 26:3-4 NIV

We live in confusing times. COVID-19 is running rampant. Or maybe it’s all overblown. It depends on who you are listening to.

Protests are erupting in cities all over the United States, and around the world over police brutality against black men. Are these peaceful protesters with a valid cause? Or are they just anarchists looking for an excuse to upend the social order and overthrow the government?

Christians complain that their freedoms are being taken away and their right to worship as they please is being suppressed. Protests against (illegal) immigration, sexual identity, women’s rights, the rights of the unborn, and on and on.

The news is filled with conflict and uncertainty. As a believer in the Lord Jesus, how am I to respond to all of the turmoil in our country? I will not offer any advice on which side of the many issues facing us you should stand on. But I would encourage you to keep in mind the psalmist’s words here.

Kept in Perfect Peace

Trust in the Lord. Keep your mind steadfastly focused on him. And when you do, you will be kept in perfect peace. The world will be just as troubled. And conflict will continue to abound. But we can be at peace. Not because this world is in good shape. But because the one who holds us in his hand is greater than all of the problems facing us. We can trust him to safely bring us through the swamps and jungles of life, and into his eternal presence.
