He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.

Isaiah 33:6 NIV

This is a part of a message that God gave through the prophet Isaiah to Judah, encouraging them to turn to the Lord. But I believe it has application to people today.

God is a sure foundation for our times. We can build our lives on him, knowing that the storms of life will not be able to wash us away (Matt. 7:24-25). Regardless of the times in which we live, God is sufficient. Don’t be guilty of thinking that we live in a day and age that has outgrown its need for God. He is just as relevant today as he was in biblical times.

God is a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. We might look to a strong military or economy for salvation, protecting us from those who would seek to cause us harm. We might depend on an educational system and scientific discovery to increase our wisdom and knowledge. And there is some truth to those thoughts. But, in the end, the only salvation that matters is what comes from the Lord. And the only wisdom and knowledge that is unchanging are based on God.

And the key to this strong foundation, to salvation, wisdom, and knowledge, is the fear of the Lord. Fall before him in repentance and seek his face. Trust in him to deliver you. And walk in humility before him.
