I Will Look To Where My Help Comes From

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1-2 NIV

As I write this, the world, and my country especially, is in turmoil. COVID-19 has killed over 200,000 people in the U.S. and nearly 1 million worldwide. And it does not appear to be slowing down. Wildfires are raging along the west coast of the U.S., and hurricanes are pounding the Gulf Coast. Protests against racial inequality are erupting across the US, and being coopted by anarchists who are burning and looting. In addition, our political leadership is deeply divided on nearly every issue imaginable. So what does the future hold for us?

I make no claims to knowing what the future holds for the U.S. God has not granted me a vision of what our future holds. It may continue its descent into anarchy. Or it may pull itself together and effectively deal with the problems we are facing.

Where My Help Comes From

But what I do know is where my help comes from. It comes, not from financial security, technological advancement, or strength of arms. Rather, it comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He holds my future safe in his hands. I can trust in him, each step of the way, to guard me and to bring me safely to himself in the end. The journey may be hard and challenging. It may even be cut short. But I know who I have believed and am convinced that he will keep me until the end (2 Tim. 1:12). The one who created the cosmos, in all its complexity and vastness, knows and cares for me. How amazing is that?
