Jotham grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the LORD his God.

2 Chronicles 27:6 NIV

Jotham was the son of Uzziah, a good king who became proud because of his power. A pride that led to his downfall. Unlike many of the kings of Israel and Judah, Jotham learned from his father’s mistake. Jotham followed the ways of the Lord, living in obedience to him. And as a result, he became powerful. But his power did not lead him to the pride that was his father’s downfall.

Many have become powerful even while living in disobedience to the Lord. And many who do live in obedience to the Lord are weak. At least in the eyes of this world. But what the chronicler says about Jotham is true of all who seek to follow the Lord. Their obedience will result in a power that nothing in this world will be able to overcome.
