Meet the Author

I have just recently finished Stephen Kings 7 volume “The Dark Tower” series.  The story concerns a gunslinger, along with some companions, who are journeying to the Dark Tower, a tower that appears to be the central hub that the universe, containing multiple parallel worlds (including ours), hangs on.  These worlds are not doing so well and the gunslingers journey is one that will hopefully fix at least some of what is wrong. During the course of the story they occasionally move from one world to another and in one of them, ours, encounter a young author, Stephen King, who …

What If There Were No God?

The title question is one that came to me while tramping along the Pacific Crest Trail last month.  I do not really have a wonderful answer to it, but do have some thoughts.  Obviously it would make a tremendous difference in our eternity if there was no God.  And it would make a difference to those of us who walk with him now.  But what about the world in general? What would be the ramifications in our world if there really was no God?  While most people would say that things would be different, there are those who will answer …

The Aurora Shooting: Why Did God Allow It?

You no doubt have heard of the shooting in an Aurora Colorado theater this past Friday morning.  It has been the topic of endless news releases and speculation as to just why an apparently quiet, intelligent and well adjusted individual would plot and execute such a grisly mass killing.  And, as of yet, no one other than the shooter seems to have any idea as to his motives. But there is another question concerning this event that some are asking: why would a loving, all-powerful, and all-knowing God allow such a tragedy to occur.  If there is such a God, why would he not …

Why God?

I am encountering more and more folks who have rejected, not only God, but even the possibility that there might be something that is beyond what their senses can experience.  I have talked with a number of these atheists, mostly online, over the past 8 years or so, have listened to their explanations, have tried to understand their reasoning, and evaluated my own beliefs.  But to no avail. Atheism remains to me a hollow and deceptive philosophy that glorifies mankind and our achievements;  that has no purpose for life other than what the individual chooses to give themselves; and has no …

Who Does God Love?

In my opinion, and at the risk of being judgmental myself, WBC is nothing but a small group of people, mostly one extended family, that are hate filled and use Christianity simply as an excuse to spew their hatred for the rest of the world. I can see no evidence that they themselves have experienced or know the love of God. And yet, God would save even them, if they would repent and turn to him.

In God We Trust!

In God we trust. It is the American motto and is inscribed on every bill and every coin in my pocket. So it must be true … right? I am not absolutely sure who the we is in this expression, but I assume it to mean the American public; you, me and the other 300 million plus people who live in this country. And surely all of us in this Christian nation trust in God … don’t we?

The Doctrine of Faith: the Human Response to God’s Grace

Intellectual assent that God exists and that Jesus died for sins and was raised to life will not bring about my salvation; that is not faith. Faith includes earnestly seeking God and professing Jesus as Lord, both of which involve giving myself to him to do with as he desires. Faith takes me off the throne and puts God on it.
