The Intolerance of Tolerance

Tolerance: the ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with. Tolerate: allow the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.  Tolerance is a virtue that many people espouse, but I wonder how many of those calling for tolerance really understand what the word means.  Tolerance does not mean that we all agree with each other.  Tolerance implies just the opposite.  We have differing opinions, beliefs or behaviors that we disagree about.  Tolerance means that we recognize the differences, …

Homosexuality and the Bible

I am a follower of Jesus, a Christian.  I try to follow the teaching of Jesus and the apostles as recorded in the New Testament.  I hang out mostly with other Christians.  And all of that has an effect on how I react to social issues in the community at large.  And one of the biggest social issues today seems to be concerning homosexuality.  It is causing much anguish, gnashing of teeth, and condemnation in the Christian community today.  But why? Muppets, Chicken and Tolerance

Chick-Fil-A is a fast food restaurant specializing in chicken.  They have no stores where I live, but I have been into a couple while on travel.  They seemed to be clean and friendly with good food and service, so long as you did not want to eat on Sunday.  Chick-Fil-A is owned and operated by Christians who support Christian charities and traditional family values.  Anyone is welcome to eat at Chick-Fil-A’s, and, as far as I know, employment laws would prevent them from discriminating against people seeking employment based on sexual preference. Homosexuals: Lock Them Up and Throw Away the Key?

I read an article yesterday that I found to be very disturbing.  Seems like Charles Worley, pastor of the Providence Road Baptist Church near Maiden N.C. decided to spice up his Mother’s Day sermon by advocating that all homosexuals should be rounded up and put into a big fenced enclosure until they had all died.  Although he was generous enough to permit helicopters to fly over and drop them in some food supplies. “I figured a way out, a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers but I couldn’t get it pass the Congress – build a great big …
