What Do You Take Pride in? – Jeremiah 9:23-24
What do you take pride in? Your accomplishments and abilities? Or in what God has done, and is doing, in your life?
Encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thess. 2:12 NIV)
What do you take pride in? Your accomplishments and abilities? Or in what God has done, and is doing, in your life?
Uzziah was generally a good king. But his pride led to his downfall. Be careful of claiming credit for what God has done.
Those unwilling to believe dismissed Pentecost as just too much wine. How like our world today in rationalizing away unwelcome truths.
In the early day of the church a couple died after lying to God. And great fear seized the whole church. I wonder what would happen today?
I believe that human pride is one of the causes that lead people to turn away from God; reveling in their own wisdom and understanding; and in the process becoming fools. Education and learning are wonderful things. Modern science is a great tool to help us to understand the creation around us. But when we put education or science on the throne, instead of God, we have done what Paul is expressing in Romans 1:22-23; claiming to be wise, but becoming fools.
In Jesus parable, two men went up to pray. One was self-righteous, and not heard by God. The other humbled himself, and was exalted by God.
What would Jesus’ parable of two men going to pray look like in today’s world. Might it be a Baptist deacon and a common prostitute?
