Perhaps when the people of Judah hear about every disaster I plan to inflict on them, they will each turn from their wicked ways; then I will forgive their wickedness and their sin.
Jeremiah 36:3 NIV
Is it ever too late to repent of your sin and believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior? I believe there are two answers to that question. I do believe there comes a time when it is too late to repent. Once this life is over, the door to salvation closes.
But as long as this life continues, I believe that opportunity exists. The message the Lord gave here through Jeremiah occurred just a few short years before Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and the nation of Judah ceased to exist. This destruction was coming because the people had turned away from the Lord to serve other gods. And because they had not been acting justly toward each other.
They had been warned of the consequences of their actions for many generations. And they had seen what had happened to their sister kingdom of Israel. Yet still, they persisted in their rebellion. The book of Jeremiah is filled with doom. Yet here, God still is giving them an opportunity.
Even as the end was fast approaching, it was not too late to turn things around. God would forgive them if they would repent and turn from their sin. And I believe that what was true for the nation of Judah then is true for individuals today. No matter where you are in your life, you still have the opportunity to repent and believe. God is reaching out with open arms. Will you respond to him before it’s too late?
