Encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thess. 2:12 NIV)

Stand Firm Until the End – Matthew 24:9-13

Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.

Matthew 24:9-13 NIV

In this passage, Jesus was looking ahead to a time of great upheaval in the world. He described a time when those who followed him would suffer greatly, with many turning away. Many false prophets would appear, preaching a more appealing gospel, and would deceive many. Wickedness would increase and love would fade. People are divided as to the time period Jesus is referring to here. But I believe that what he is saying has relevance for any time, including today.

Stand Firm

I do not know what you face in your life as a follower of Jesus. Some who read this may indeed be facing intense persecution and suffering because of their faith. Others may well be tempted to conform to the world around them. Or experience doubt because God does not seem to care about what is happening. But Jesus’ words to his early followers are just as appropriate to us today. Stand firm! Don’t be moved from the hope that we have in Christ. Walk with him, and stand firm, until the end. And experience the salvation he has waiting for us.
