Receive the Kingdom Like a Child

When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”

Mark 10:14-15 NIV

I get to spend time with my grandchildren periodically. And that has given this passage new meaning. My grandkids are all pretty young. And they seldom do anything halfway. Whatever they do, they do with abandon. While their attention span is short, and they flit from thing to thing, whatever it is that they are engaged in occupies them entirely.

And that is how I should be with the Kingdom of God. Not flitting around. But fully engaged. Giving the Kingdom all of my attention. Even as I live and function in this world, it should be as a citizen of the Kingdom, fully given over to the life my Lord has called me to live. “Receive the kingdom of God like a little child.
