Let Nothing Move You

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

This verse reminds me of a picture I see occasionally. In the center of the picture is a lighthouse set on a rock in a storm. The waves are crashing around the lighthouse. But its foundation is firm, and the lighthouse stands secure; no matter what the storm throws at it, nothing moves it.

Stand Firm

Even so, as believers in the Lord Jesus, we should stand firm in Him regardless of what the world may throw at us. Let nothing move us away from the hope we have in Him, whether that be the storms of life, the pleasures of this world, or simply complacency. It is so easy to take our eyes off of our Lord. And when we do, we will soon find ourselves adrift. Always stand firm in the hope we have in Christ.

But the lighthouse does not just stand firm. It continues to do its job regardless of what is happening around it. The lighthouse continues to cast its beam out into the night, whether it is stormy or clear. And that should be true of us as well. No matter the circumstances we find ourselves in, we should be fully engaged in the work of the Lord. Not just on Sunday mornings or other special times. But always. Give yourself fully to Him in everything you do. Knowing that your labor in the Lord will be fully rewarded.

  1. Let nothing move you besides trails , circumstances could also be what someone does or says to you or even your own thoughts ,as David said ” my thoughts trouble me ” . Nothing means nothing .

    • It is unclear to me what you are trying to say here. We should let nothing move us from the hope we have in Christ. Not trails/trials, circumstances, or even our own troubled thoughts.

      • Right ,besides trials ,problems , circumstances could also be your own thoughts , what someone says to you , which people might not realize or think about .

      • Right , people might not think how your thoughts can be included as something that can move you or trouble you as well as what someone says to you , besides the obvious trial , problems , circumstances .
