Fix Your Thoughts on Jesus

Hebrews 3:1

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.

Hebrews 3:1 NIV

Hebrews seems to have been written to an audience of Jewish believers. They had accepted Jesus as the fulfillment of their hope for a messiah, a king to rule on David’s throne. But doubt seems to have entered their minds, and there was a temptation to return to their life under the old covenant. The author of Hebrews went to great lengths in this letter to convince them that Jesus is superior in every way to their life under the old covenant.

Today, we find many things that often seem very appealing. Things that can easily distract us from a wholehearted life of faith in Christ. What the author of Hebrews had to say to these wavering Jewish Christians 2000 years ago is just as appropriate to us today. Fix your thoughts on Jesus. I do indeed have to think about many things during the course of a day. But at the center of it all should be Jesus. If He is filling my thoughts, then there will be little appeal in the distractions of this world.

Fix your thoughts on Jesus. Walk with Him, letting Him be at the center of all you do. And your life and walk with Him will be blessed and grow ever deeper.
