It [the Beast] was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation . . . This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people.
Revelation 13:7, 10b NIV
We generally understand this passage as relating to the rise of the Antichrist sometime in the future, and I would not dispute that. But the reality of this passage is true today. The spirit of antichrist is very active in the world today, waging war on the saints and conquering them. I live in the U.S., as do many who will read this. While I hear people complain about the persecution of Christianity in this country, the reality is that real persecution is very rare here. But there are places in this world where the church is persecuted mercilessly in an attempt to eradicate it. World Watch Monitor (https://www.worldwatchmonitor.org/2017/01/nationalism-in-asia-islamic-extremism-in-africa-the-2017-world-watch-list/) reports on the most dangerous places to be a Christian today, and the news is not good.
Please pray for the persecuted church around the world. Persecution is not going to go away, and will likely continue to increase and spread. But pray for their faith and endurance (v. 10). Also, consider encouraging your church to remember those suffering for their faith on Persecuted Church Sunday, November 5, 2017.
When you don’t know what to do just stand in love and faith this too shall pass and justice shall be won.
