“At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
Mark 13:26-27 NIV
It has been nearly 2000 years since Jesus was crucified, resurrected, and ascended into heaven. But before he left, he promised that he would return for those who are his. There are some who have given up looking for his return (2 Pet. 3:3-7). Some attempt to predict when his return will occur, although so far without any luck. And some announce that they, or their leader, are the second coming of Jesus (Mark 13:21-22). While many who look forward to his return invest considerable time and energy in trying to map out the events that surround his return.
Repeatedly Jesus makes clear that he is going to return. And that when he does, everyone will see him, coming in the clouds with great power and glory. There will be no secret coming. You won’t have to watch it on the news. There will be no need for someone to have to tell you that he came and is currently at a certain location. His coming will be visible worldwide.
And when he comes, he will gather his elect from around the world. And that includes the dead as well as the living (1 Thess. 4:15-16). Who are the elect? All of those that God has chosen, and who have committed their lives to him.
While I may not see his return during my brief sojourn in the flesh, I do look forward to it at some time in the future. Jesus is returning. And he is returning for me. And when he does, I will be with him forever (1 Thess. 4:17). Such a marvelous hope we can have in Christ.
Thank you so much for breaking this scripture down for me. I was confused with the four winds, then realized N,E,W,S.
So glad I was able to help. And I believe you are right concerning the four winds.
Thanks for posting discuss this here during Sunday School in a pioneering outreach.
I’m glad you found it useful.
