And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:6-7 NIV

In the previous two verses, Paul said that God, because of his love, mercy, and grace, made us alive in Christ. Even when we were dead in our sins. And, in this passage, we see that God did not stop by just making us alive in Christ.

God also raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms. We talk about going to heaven when we die as believers. But in a very real sense, we are already there. We are where Christ is, at the right hand of the Father (Col. 3:1-3). And we are there because of what God has done for us.

Why has God done this? So that in the ages to come, for all of eternity to come, he might demonstrate the riches of his grace and kindness to us. His grace has raised me from death to life. But that is just the beginning. He will continue to express his grace to me, and all who are in Christ Jesus, throughout all of eternity.

We are called to worship and serve our creator. But it seems he has also called us to be recipients of his grace, both now and forever. Why would he do that? Because he is gracious. It is simply who he is.

I cannot even begin to imagine what that will be like. To experience the incomparable riches of God’s grace throughout eternity. I have truly been blessed.
