Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7 NIV

People today are anxious about many things. We live in a time of great unrest and uncertainty. The news is filled with accounts of mass shootings, riots, belligerent political leaders threatening anyone who opposes them, global warming, pandemics, and economic crises. And the list goes on. Depending on where you live, the details may vary. But the constant is that we could be overwhelmed by anxiety if we let it.

And this is not a new phenomenon. Throughout history, there have always been things that threaten us. Things that can take away our peace of mind. And that makes what Peter says here relevant to all peoples throughout history. Give your anxiety to God. Because he cares for you.

There are some caveats to this, though. Peter is writing to believers. This promise does not apply to those who are not his. And, this is not a promise that life will be easy and carefree if we cast out anxieties on God.

But it is a promise that God cares about us. Much more than we can grasp. If he was willing to give his Son to die in our place, how much more can we trust him to bring us safely to himself in the end? We will face struggles in this life. But, as we go through them, we can trust the one who loves us most to see us through them. In all you face, trust in the Lord. He cares for you.
