Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Revelation 21:27 NIV

Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? This is a question whose answer has eternal significance. Revelation 20:15 says that at the final judgment, those whose names are not written in this book are thrown into the Lake of Fire, the second death. In contrast, Revelation 21:27 says that admittance to the Holy City, the Bride of Christ, is granted only to those whose names are written in the book.

What is this book? It is, in a sense, a membership roster. All those who belong to Jesus, the Lamb who was slain, are recorded here.

How does one get their name written in the Book of Life? In John 5:24, Jesus said, “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.” Have you heard and believed the good news that Jesus brought? Have you responded to it by putting your faith and hope in the Lord Jesus? Then you have crossed from death to life. Eternal life, rather than judgment, is yours, and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
