The Holy Spirit Will Teach Us All Things

But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 14:26 NIV

This is such an important verse expressing an essential component for our walk with Christ. The Holy Spirit has come, at least in part, as our teacher. But, at the same time, it can be confusing. We might be tempted to think that we can just sit down and have the Holy Spirit dump information into our minds with little effort on our part. But, while the Spirit is quite capable of doing that, I believe it is a rather rare occurrence.

I believe that the primary way the Holy Spirit teaches us and reminds us of what Jesus said, is through the Bible. All too often, people read the Bible without the Spirit’s guidance. And, when we do that, we miss out on much of its value. But, when we engage the Holy Spirit as our teacher, the Bible is a quite different collection of writings.

As believers, I cannot stress the importance of spending time each day meditating on God’s word. And, as we do, letting the Holy Spirit lead us into the truth it contains. Under the Spirit’s illumination, it comes alive and has value in every part of our life in Christ (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
