Do Not Be Anxious About Anything

Philippians 4:6-7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

This is such a relevant passage for the days we live in. There are so many things happening that we could be anxious about. Sickness and disability disrupt life; super-powers threaten conflict; instability in the political, economic, and social arenas threatens our way of life; and persecution for our faith is common in many parts of the world. There is indeed much that we could be anxious about.

But Paul encourages us not to be anxious about any of that. Instead of being worried about things you have no control over, surrender them to God. There is no guarantee that trouble will not come into your life. In fact, you can be reasonably confident that you will face difficulties in this life, regardless of how faithfully you pray about them.

Know God’s Peace

But what is promised us is the peace of God. A peace that is beyond our ability to comprehend fully. A peace that will serve as a guard on our hearts and minds. Amid the turmoil and confusion that characterizes life in this world, I can experience peace rather than anxiety. And I am so thankful for that.
