“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
There are similarities among these three ways we might approach God in prayer. But they can speak to us in different ways. The one that speaks most to me concerns seeking. Here we are told that the one who seeks will find. You might picture this as a scavenger hunt, where you are given something to look for. And then you go out and search for that thing until you find it. Or at least hope to find it. But the assurance we are given here is that if we search, we will find what we are looking for. Maybe not immediately. But it will be found.
Seek Your Place of Service
But this verse is talking about something much more important than a scavenger hunt. I have spoken with many believers who do not know how they can serve God, and so they do nothing. I believe that Jesus is telling us here to seek. And, if we do, He will help us find our place of service within the kingdom. But we have to be actively seeking His specific will for our lives.
What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are your passions? How can you use those most effectively where you are? Try different things and see how the Lord might use you. Don’t just sit on a pew and be content with inactivity. Seek, and you will find your place of service in the kingdom. Never give up seeking to be where God wants you to be at different times in your life.
