Transformed Into His Image

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV

Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that we were made in the image of God. But that image has been tarnished by our sin. The natural man no longer bears much resemblance to his creator. No matter what we might do, that image is stained and beyond our ability to renew.

Being Transformed

But the good news is that in Christ, the image of God is being restored in us. Not all at once. But that transformation does occur as we ourselves “contemplate the Lord’s glory.” How do I contemplate the glory of Christ? It is not something that happens by accident. It will not happen as I spend time in the activities of this world, no matter how good they might be. And it will not happen just because of a desire on my part, although that desire is important.

In order to contemplate, or intently look at, the Lord’s glory, I need to spend time with Him. I need to come before Him in prayer. Not with a list of requests. But just spending time with Him. I need to spend time in the Bible. Not just reading the words. But allowing them to transform me. I need to spend time in worship. Not just singing a few songs. But bowing down before Him.

And the result of this is that I will become more and more like Him. And His glory will be reflected through me, as I am transformed into His image. The image I was created to bear.
