The Israelite generation that came out of Egypt constantly tested God. And because of that, God sentenced them to wander in the wilderness until all of them had died (Heb. 3:7-11). The author of Hebrews then challenged his readers not to follow their example and fall away from the living God (Heb. 3:12). A challenge that extends to all of us who follow Jesus as Lord.
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
Hebrews 3:13 NIV
We should encourage each other daily so that we do not become hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. I believe this is an important aspect of being a community of believers. To be cheerleaders for each other, encouraging your brothers and sisters in the Lord to live lives of faithfulness to our Lord.
Encouragement can take different forms. I might encourage you by sharing something positive about what I have seen in your life. Especially how it might have blessed me. I might cheer you on as you live a faithful life, applauding your growth and fruitfulness. And I can also encourage you to remain faithful when you are struggling. To be there for you when you face life’s challenges. And to pick you up when you stumble or fall.
This journey of faith we travel is much easier when we know others are walking it with us. So, daily, look for ways to come alongside and encourage those around you. It will make a tremendous difference in their lives, the life of the body as a whole, and your own life.
