Tell Me, So That I May Believe

John 9:35-38

Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
“Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.”
Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.”
Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him.

John 9:35-38 NIV

This passage comes from one of a handful of miracles, or signs, recorded in John’s gospel. John tells us that he records these signs so that those who read his gospel might believe in Jesus, the Son of God, and have life in His name (John 20:31). And this account is of one who did come to believe in Jesus.

Tell Others About Jesus

There is a lot that goes on in this account. But what I find most significant is this interaction between Jesus and the man He healed. This man had been born blind, and Jesus had restored his physical sight. Now, Jesus came back to him to address a deeper issue: his spiritual sight. Jesus asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” The man’s response indicated he was receptive, and Jesus introduced Himself to him. And the man believed and worshipped Jesus. His spiritual eyes were opened to recognize Jesus.

I wonder how many people in our world today are just like this man. They are receptive to the truth about Jesus. But they need someone to tell them about Him. This is a challenge for me to be aware of those around me. And to be willing to share Jesus with them when the opportunity presents itself. Many are not interested in hearing about Jesus. But many others are yearning for what Jesus offers and will gladly believe.
