“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 NIV
In this passage, Jesus had been giving final instructions to those who had been following him for three years, preparing them for the challenges they would face when he was gone. They were going to face many difficult times. But Jesus had overcome the world, and so long as they were in him, his peace would fill them. They would know his peace regardless of their outward circumstances.
And that is just as true for us today. We have no promise that life will be easy for us as believers. And the reality is that our outward circumstances will likely be more difficult when we are faithfully following Jesus’ lead. But, in Christ, we can have peace. A peace that this world cannot give or experience. So take heart. And continue to follow him faithfully despite the challenges you face.
