The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.

Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV

This verse divides knowledge into two realms. There is some knowledge that God has reserved for himself, the secret things that belong to the Lord. And there are other things that he has revealed to us.

I have been reading and studying the Bible for over 50 years now. And there is much about God and his purpose that I still do not understand. Some of it I may eventually grasp. But only if it is included in what God has revealed to us. And there are doubtless many things about the infinite God and his purpose in creation that I am incapable of understanding in my finite mind. Things I cannot even conceive of.

Secret Things and Revealed Truths

However, more important to us should be what he has revealed. He has given us what we need in order to know and follow him. God has not told us much about what the future holds. A complete picture of the future is among the secret things that have not been revealed. But he has told us what we need to know for living now. And if we will follow the words of his instruction to us, we will be his children now and forever. And we can trust him that the future he has prepared for us, whatever it holds, will be good.
