Where can I go from your Spirit?
Psalm 139:7–10 NIV
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
Do you trust God? I mean, really trust him? Do you trust him enough to go wherever he leads, even if it is outside your comfort zone? And maybe even well outside that zone?
What the psalmist expresses in these verses should be an encouragement to us. Wherever we go, whether high or low, east or west, God is always there with us. He will be with us and keep us safe, regardless of where he might lead.
That does not mean that we will not face challenges along the way. It does not mean that we will not experience hurt or disappointment. But it does mean that God will walk with us through everything we might face. Even when it might seem like he has abandoned us, he has not. He is always nearby to guide and comfort us.
And even when, like the psalmist, we are fleeing from God’s presence, we can never escape him. He is always near, seeking to bring us back to himself.
Trust in the Lord and his comforting and protecting presence. Trust him enough to step out in faithful obedience to his instruction in the Scripture, and his Spirit’s voice within. The way may be long and dark at times. And the road may be difficult. But he will be walking it with us. And that should be all we need.
