let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:22 NIV

The Most Holy Place was an inner room in the Jewish Tabernacle/Temple. To enter the Most Holy Place was to enter the very presence of God. Under the Old Covenant, entering the Most Holy Place was not done lightly. Only the High Priest could do this. And then only on the Day of Atonement, after he had washed and offered a sacrifice for his sin. Neither the High Priest, any other priest, nor the people could wander into the Most Holy Place anytime they wanted to. The result would be death for the violator of that most holy place.

But access to the Most Holy Place has been opened for us now by the blood of Jesus. And, because of what Jesus has done for us, we can have the confidence to enter the Most Holy Place without fear of destruction (Heb. 10:19-20). But what do we do with that privilege? How often do we enter the Most Holy Place and spend time with God?

Enter the Most Holy Place

The author of Hebrews encourages us to draw near to God with a sincere heart and the full assurance that faith brings. To enter the Most Holy Place with sprinkled hearts and washed bodies, made holy by the sacrifice of Jesus (Heb. 10:10, 14). Come before him in prayer, not just making requests, but seeking to know him and his will for your life. Spend time in the Scriptures, seeking the Holy Spirit’s instruction and listening to what he says. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness (Ps. 29:2), bowing down before him in humble submission. Above all, come into his presence with confidence and assurance, knowing you are dearly loved and invited in.

We should make visits to the Most Holy Place a daily occurrence. And as we spend time reflecting on his glory, we will find ourselves transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory (2 Cor. 3:18).
