Clothe yourselves with the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
Ephesians 6:11 NET
It is not uncommon to hear someone talk about coming under spiritual attack. And this generally refers to some struggle they are going through. There is no question but that Satan will sometimes attack us head-on. But he is often much more subtle, using our old human nature against us.
How often do I . . .
- Allow pride to keep me from forgiving another person, causing division within the body of Christ?
- Assign a low priority to spending time in the Bible and prayer?
- Feel satisfaction with my development as a believer?
- Complain about the preacher, the worship team, and any number of other things within the life of the church?
- Allow my comfort and security to keep me from ministering to others?
We are often alert to direct frontal attacks on our faith. But even then, how frequently do we respond like the people of this world? When someone insults us, do we respond with insult? Or with blessing? When we are attacked, do we attack back? Or respond with kindness? When faced with a crisis, do we allow it to consume us? Or do we trust in the Lord to see us through it?
The armor the Lord provides us is not just something to put on when you recognize an attack coming. It is something to be worn all the time. Even when your life seems at peace. Hold to the truth, maintain personal righteousness, walk in faith, and invest in the word and prayer. Make it your way of life. And it will protect you, not just when obvious trouble comes. But also when the adversary tries to sneak in through the back door.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand for God against the schemes of the Devil. And, when the battle is over, you will emerge victorious.
