Encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thess. 2:12 NIV)

Who Is the Lord that I Should Obey Him?

Exodus 5:2

Pharaoh said, “Who is the LORD, that I should obey him and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD and I will not let Israel go.”

Exodus 5:2 NIV

This verse was Pharaoh’s response when Moses first appeared before him with the LORD’s demand: “Let my people go.” Pharaoh knew of many gods and was considered a god himself. But YHWH (translated in our English Bibles as LORD) is one he had never heard of. And he saw no reason to pay any attention to this unknown deity.

But he did come to at least recognize the power of YHWH over the following days as Egypt experienced a series of plagues that ended with Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. During that time, the LORD proved His power and authority over the gods of Egypt. All of whom were powerless before Him.

Is God Seen in My Life?

Many people today ask the same questions as the Pharaoh of the Exodus. Who is God? And why should I listen to what He has to say?

God responded to Pharaoh with a series of plagues, showing His power in a very dramatic fashion. But more often today, the answer to those questions is given through the lives and words of His people.

Do others see the transformative power of God at work in my life? And do they hear His words in what I speak and write?

While passing through this world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true,
Let others see Jesus in you.

Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it through and through;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

[Chorus]
