Oh, how I love your law!

I meditate on it all day long.
How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Psalm 119 is by far the longest of the psalms. The focus of this psalm is God’s word to us. The psalmist repeatedly expressed his love for what God had said and its importance to him.
The psalm is filled with descriptive terms for God’s word: laws, commands, statutes, precepts, and decrees. It is easy to see these terms as a set of rules that tell us what we can and cannot do. But the psalmist did not see them in that light. The psalmist understood that God’s word enabled him to know God and walk with Him. Rather than being a set of rules to follow, God’s word gave him wisdom, insight, and understanding into God and His ways. God’s word was sweeter than honey to him
Today, most people have access to the Bible and can read it for themselves. But many leave it sitting on the shelf, collecting dust. Others read it occasionally. And some read it regularly. But how many of us delight in God’s word, meditating on it throughout the day? And how many find God’s word to be sweeter than honey?
This psalm challenges us to see God’s word as more than a dry, ancient, and sometimes incomprehensible book. But as the living word of God, helping us know our God better. Spend time with God’s word. Meditate on what it says. And find yourself drawn ever deeper into an intimate relationship with your creator and redeemer.
