I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
Ezekiel 30:26 NIV
This expression, “Then they will know that I am the LORD,” is an interesting one. It is found eighteen times in Ezekiel and nowhere else in the Bible. Sixteen times it immediately follows pronouncements of judgment on Israel or one of its neighboring countries. And the other two times, it is in response to restoration after judgment is complete.
Each of these nations would be conquered by Babylon as a judgment from God for their sin and idolatry. And, after this judgment, they would somehow know that it came from God. Ezekiel was prophesying against nations here. But what he had to say is just as applicable to individuals.
There is coming a time of judgment at the end of this age. And all who have lived their lives in rebellion against the sovereign Lord will experience eternal punishment. They may have denied the existence of God or his rightful place in their lives during this life. But then they will know that he is the Lord God. Only it will be too late.
How much better to confess him as Lord now rather than after it is too late? Is he your Lord now? Or are you waiting until after your judgment to acknowledge him as God?
