Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is the new creation.
Galatians 6:15 NIV
The churches in Galatia had been infiltrated by those who claimed that belief in Jesus was insufficient for salvation. They taught that unless a person was also circumcised and obeyed the law of Moses, they could not be saved. And much of this letter to the Galatians is in response to that. In it, Paul passionately argues against circumcision and for the sufficiency of faith in salvation.
His concluding remark here is that whether or not a person is circumcised is irrelevant. But what counts is the new creation. It is what is on the inside that matters—being crucified with Christ, dying to this world, and living in the newness of the Spirit. And that new creation comes about through faith alone.
A New Creation
Are you a Baptist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal, Roman Catholic, or Greek Orthodox? It does not matter. What matters is a new creation.
Hymns or choruses, immersion or sprinkling, Calvinist or Arminian, or any number of other differences found across Christianity today? In the end, it does not matter. What matters is a new creation.
Doctrine is important. And how we worship and serve our Lord is important. But they are not matters of salvation. And we should not allow them to divide us. All who follow Jesus as Lord are a new creation, being built into a holy temple to God (Eph. 2:19-22). We are one body in Christ, regardless of our external differences. And, as a new creation, we should love and serve together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
