Trusting an Eternal and Unchanging God

Psalm 102:25-27

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
and they will be discarded.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.

Psalm 102:25-27 NIV

This passage contrasts the creation with its creator. It tells me that:

  • God is the creator
  • That all I see is a part of his creation
  • The creation had a beginning
  • In the beginning, God was already
  • The creation will come to an end
  • But, unlike the creation, God is eternal
  • And, unlike his creation, he remains unchanged

I do not understand eternity. I have a hard time comprehending the age and size of the creation. Nor can I begin to comprehend the unchanging nature of God. But fortunately, I do not have to fully understand God’s eternal, unchanging nature to worship, serve, and trust him with my life.

Because of God’s eternal, unchanging nature, I can trust that his love for me will endure throughout eternity. And that I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psa. 23:6). Regardless of what might happen to me in this life, I know that my eternity is secure. Because of the eternal, unchanging nature of the God to whom I have entrusted my life (2 Tim. 1:12).
