But you should go your way until the end. You will rest and then at the end of the days you will arise to receive what you have been allotted.

Daniel 12:13 NIV

The last few chapters of Daniel are concerned with the future. Many of us have spent time trying to understand what Daniel was told. And that includes Daniel himself. The visions he received caused him distress, and he greatly desired to understand what they meant and what the ultimate outcome would be (Dan. 12:8).

Daniel was told that the understanding of his visions would be hidden until the time of the end. Life will go on until then, with many being refined and made spotless while the wicked would continue in their ways.

I would love to have a more detailed description of what will happen at the end of this age, especially when the Lord will return. However, to me, at least, it remains a mystery. But these final words given to Daniel tell me all I need to know.

I should go my way until the end. The way that God has set out for me, following Daniel’s example of faithfulness. At the end of this life’s work will come a time of rest, when I will enter into God’s rest (Gen. 2:2, Heb. 4:9-11). And, at the end of the age when the Lord returns, I will rise to receive my allotted inheritance.

All of the details surrounding the end fade in significance to that. Regardless of what happens and when it will take place, my future is secure. So, instead of getting caught up in speculation about the end times, wait for the Lord’s return and focus on living faithfully now and trusting God for my future and the inheritance he has prepared for me.
