He replied, “I do not know whether he is a sinner. I do know one thing—that although I was blind, now I can see.”
John 9:25 NET
Jesus healed a man born blind. The healed man then found himself on the hot seat because the healing happened on the Sabbath. The Pharisees grilled him over what had happened. And they accused Jesus of being a sinner because he had healed the man on the Sabbath.
The man’s answer to the Pharisees is great. He confessed that he did not know all the answers to the questions they were asking. But he did know what had happened to him. He was blind. And now he could see. There was no disputing that fact.
This man’s answer to those wanting to know what had happened to him is one I have used many times. I do not know all the answers to the questions that skeptics might ask. But there is one thing I do know beyond the shadow of a doubt. I know what Jesus did in my own life.
I was spiritually blind. Then, I met Jesus. And the encounter opened my eyes and transformed my life. As an 18-year-old, my plans for the future underwent a dramatic realignment. I no longer wanted to pursue the course I had set for my life. And I have never regretted it.
Today, I can answer more questions than I could 50+ years ago. But still, the best answer I can provide to a skeptic is my own experience with the Lord Jesus.
And that should be true of all believers. We may or may not be able to answer the questions a skeptic might raise. And it is doubtful that we will ever argue them into the kingdom. But the witness of a transformed life is a powerful testimony. It is what brought me to the Lord.
