Our Knowledge Is Incomplete at Best

For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

1 Corinthians 13:12 NIV

There was a time in my life when I thought I understood the Scriptures pretty well. I had spent a considerable amount of time in study, meditation, and memorization. I knew there was still more to learn. But it seemed like I was well on my way.

But the older I have gotten, and the more I have learned, I have come to understand that I have still only scratched the surface. And I believe that this verse expresses that. Now, I know in part. My knowledge is incomplete. As is my ability to fully understand even the little bit that I know.

But there is coming a time when I shall fully know. One day God will call me home to be with Him. Then I will more fully understand what I have only dimly perceived before. And I am looking forward to that day.

In the meantime, I will continue to try, in my very limited way, to more fully know God and His activity among us. And hopefully, I can be gracious to others who are on the same journey. Especially to those who have arrived at a different perspective on many things that are not as clear as we might like them to be.
