The Resurrection and the Life

John 11:25-26

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26 NIV

Jesus made a pretty remarkable claim here. He claimed to be the resurrection and the life. He told Martha that the one who believed in him would live. Even if they died, they would live. This life that Jesus promised to those who believe is not affected by physical death; it goes on beyond death.

After Jesus said that those who believed in him would live, even if they died, he made another claim. That those who believed in him would live and never die. On the surface, this might seem contradictory. But Jesus is talking about two different deaths here. Those who believe will still experience physical death. But they will live on in spite of that physical death. And that life they live will never end. While our bodies will wear out and die, we look forward to a resurrection into bodies that will never die.

I am so thankful that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. That in him I have eternal life; a life that will endure beyond the few short years I have left on earth. An eternity to spend united with God, experiencing his glory and love (John 17:20-26). Can anything be better than that? Lord, I believe! Do you?

Just an old clay jar that God continues to see fit to use in his kingdom's work. I am retired, married with 2 children, and 4 grandchildren. I have followed Jesus for many years. And I love to share what He has given me from His word.
