Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Romans 12:11 NIV
This section of Romans is filled with quick little directives for life as a living sacrifice (Rom. 12:1). I find this one concerning zeal to be especially applicable to my own life, and many others who have been believers for a long time. It is all too easy to grow weary or complacent in our service to the Lord. And that is something we need to guard against.
Never be lacking in zeal. The Greek word translated as zeal means “earnestness, diligence, zeal, eagerness.” As humans, we tend to be excited about the newest thing. Until something newer and shinier comes along. Then we turn our attention to that newer thing. But that should not characterize our walk with Christ. We should always remain diligent in seeking to know him ever more fully.
Rather than be lacking in zeal, keep your spiritual fervor. Let the fire of the Spirit continue to burn brightly within you. Continue to seek the Holy Spirit’s direction in your life. And be faithful to follow where he leads.
And, as you maintain your zeal and spiritual fervor, be sure you are serving the Lord. Seek his leading in your service and follow him. Never grow weary of seeking and following the Lord. Enjoy the journey he has called you to walk with him, however long it lasts and wherever it leads.
Always a blessing to my soul.
The Lord bless you
Thanks. Blessings to you as well.
